How does the treatment work?
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive procedure that is used to treat various disorders and one of them is depression. This procedure uses a magnetic field so that it stimulates the nerve cells present in the brain intending to improve the symptoms of depression. And this procedure is taken into consideration only when all the other medications are unresponsive or ineffective in the treatment. During the session, an electromagnetic coil is used that is placed against the scalp near the forehead and a series of the magnetic pulse are delivered to the brain painlessly, which helps in stimulating the nerves in the brain that are responsible in mood control and depression. So this activates the part of the brain that has decreased its activity due to depression. This procedure is carried out only after the doctor tests out your limit to what extent the patient can handle the magnetic fields. And during the process, it feels like someone is tapping our head and a session usually lasts for up to 30-40 minutes. And it costs up to 25 thousand dollars for the complete course.
